I went down to the pool after today's gym session, I was feeling good after my first little jog yesterday and thought to myself, I punched out 40 in 40 pretty easy, might have a go at 60 in 60. (60 laps of the 50 metre pool in 60 minutes, no stops)
I was going good, tracking 10 seconds below the minute mark until lap 45. I'm pretty sure it was 44.50 when just as I'm about to start lap 46 I hear the woman in the lane next to me say, 'Excuse me, can you please stop swimming so they can put the floor bridge down at the end of the pool?'
I'm like, fcuk! Oh sorry I said. (If it can be painted on billboards around Melbourne, I think I'm safe to write it occasionally on my blog, plus it's the truth)
I said I'm doing a 60 minute exercise, how long's it going to take?
She said it shouldn't take any longer than another minute, you'll know when the beeping noise stops.
A short time after she said it the noise stopped and she's like, Ok, Go!
I looked at my watch, the time was 45.37, I'd had a 47 second forced stop, so now I had to swim my final 15 laps in 14.23.
I went as hard as I could the first 3 laps to see where I'd be at, was turning on the 19 second mark, but was buggered though, just kept going lap for lap, got it down to the 9 second mark with 5 laps to go.
It wasn't until lap 59 that I got below the minute mark, ended up completing 60 laps in 59.53. Considering it was only my second time swimming laps in the past couple of months I was pretty happy with the result.
It's the first time I've ever had a forced stoppage in this pool, the big fella pulling the strings up there, (head coach) he knows how to make me work for it.
