It's not very often you'll see me type the title Rugby League, there are two professional rugby league competitions played in the world, the first is the National Rugby League in Australia, the second is the English Super League in England.
The World Club Challenge is played between the two winners of the previous season, currently the game is played in February of the following year. (2011 champions play in February 2012)
I think it makes more sense to play the World Club Challenge two weeks after the NRL and ESL grand finals of the current season, like the NFL in America, the AFC and NFC champions play the Super Bowl two weeks after the conference finals, I posted a tweet about this suggestion a couple of years ago, I'll expand a bit more on the positives of it.
1. You'll see a true contest between the actual champions, NRL champions Manly changed coach at the end of last season, as well as players' who left both clubs as well, they don't play in this game either.
2. The NRL premiers are usually pretty rusty as the NRL season hasn't even started, whereas the English Super League season has.
3. There's a perfect window to play the World Club Challenge 2 weeks after the current season's Grand Final as the Four Nations tournament still has a few more weeks to go before it's played.
4. In my 2010 tweet I suggest the World Club Challenge final be played at the home ground of the country the Four Nations Tournament is being played in. e.g. If the Four Nations are being played in Australia this year, the World Club Challenge would be played at the home ground of the NRL champions, hopefully Melbourne Storm.
